This section is all about understanding the main idea and details of five short texts, such as advertisements, emails, messages, notes, etc. For each text, there is one multiple-choice question with three or four options.

Without knowing what the words: “fitness” and “awesome” means, we know that it's a sign about dance and exercise.

DON’T LET UNKNOWN WORDS DISTRACT YOU. If this is a practice, you can look up words later and add them to your personal notebook of new vocabulary to review. If this happens in the exam, look at words you know to find the answer. You may not need to know these words to get the correct answer. If you do need to know these words to make a decision, use hints in the text to guess what the words might mean.

My Favorite Hobby

READING PART 5

The "Open Cloze” is a task that assesses your ability to fill in the gaps in a text with the appropriate missing words. The challenge in this part is demonstrating your knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, and collocations to choose the correct words of logic and context to complete the text.

The word “that” usually starts a clause (=subject + verb)

“People” and “enjoy” is our subject and verb, so something needs to describe people. In this one, it is the number of people. We can’t guess a number but we can use a word that represents that possible number: “many”

2. Story


You are given three pictures that you must use in your story.

sPEAKING 

The A2 exam speaking is broken into 2 parts: (1) Personal opinion question and (2) Partner discussion of likes and dislikes. All sections are designed to have you express your personal opinions as well as demonstrate how to give reasons.

SPEAKING PART 1

Normally, the examiner will throw out some warmers like:

What’s your name?

Where are you from / where do you come from/ where do you live?


After that comes PART 1:

This is a personal opinion question that asks about your preferences.


TALKING ABOUT THE PREFERENCES:

I’m a big fan of… because..

I’m really keen on…because..

I enjoy….because..

I don’t like…because..


REMEMBER:  to use the same grammar as in the question

 

EXAMPLE:

“How often do you watch TV?”   Answer: I enjoy watching TV every day.

REMEMBER: After you talk about an activity, ask your partner their opinion.
